Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse

Let me tell you about this book…

It’s about a girl called Ada Goth and a mysterious mouse who visits her in the night with a curious story. The general feeling of the book is one of creepiness and spookality and it is a good one to read around Hallowe’en, which is what I did.

One of the things that makes it such a good book is the amazing way it’s illustrated. Chris Riddell who wrote the book, also did the beautiful drawings which have a dark, atmospheric feel.

Chris Riddell also put in a lot of references to Gothic literature, such as Ada’s dad Lord Goth is based on Lord Byron who was a poet. In fact Ada herself is also based on Byron’s real daughter Ada Lovelace, who was the GREATEST WOMAN EVER because she invented the computer (sort of).
